Our educational workshops are suitable for primary school-aged children. Through fun and engaging activities that focus on caring for, and learning about the environment, we aspire to encourage each child to become an environmental activist. Each learning module includes inquiry-based lessons and hands-on activities, and all are linked to the New South Wales Science and Technology K-6, and Geography K-10 syllabuses, with cross-curricular learning incorporated into every lesson. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Every workshop is facilitated by a qualified marine scientist with a background in education, ensuring a quality learning experience for each child. Our workshops are offered as single or multiple sessions. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"ENVIRONMENTS\"<\/a>
Our environments modules introduce students to the environment and its features. Students will define ‘environment’ and learn the difference between living and non-living things, animals and plants, human and non-human things. The final lesson introduces students to the different types of Australian environments and where they are located around Australia <\/span><\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Our incredible oceans modules explore the fascinating world of ocean environments. Students differentiate between aquatic and terrestrial environments, learn about plankton and photosynthesis, and explore the phenomenon of tides and ocean currents. Through practical activities, students develop an understanding of the differences between seawater and freshwater and investigate how currents move water around oceans <\/span><\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Artemia<\/em><\/span><\/strong> or ‘Sea Monkeys’ are not just a fun pet! Through this interactive module, students learn all about Artemia <\/em>and learn the importance of these fascinating little creatures to the environment and the economy. Students will get to hatch and take care of their very own Sea Monkeys, tracking thier growth and learning about them along the way <\/span><\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Our Mangroves modules educate students about mangrove habitats, the organisms of mangroves, and their importance to the environment. Students will identify the structural featurs and adaptations that allow mangroves to survive in their environment and learn the importance of mangroves to First Nations people. Through a practical activity, students develop an understanding of how mangroves protect coastlines and prevent damage from natural disasters such as a Tsunami<\/span><\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

In our All about birds modules, students will discover the diversity of bird life within Australia. They will delve into bird biology and ecology, and learn about the function of feathers through hands-on experiments. Students will participate in practical activities to identify various bird species and learn about the threats they face <\/span><\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Our Marine mammals modules take students on a learning journey about these fascinating creatures of the sea. Students will learn about the various cetacean species that occur in Australian waters, learn the difference between fishes and cetaceans, identify different cetaceans, explore the different levels of the food web, and more. We will delve deeper in to the mysteries of whales and learn the function of blubber through experiments, look at the size of whales and learn how and why whales migrate. Students will see examples of Association ELI-S work in practice and learn how we identify and track individual whales and dolphins through practical activities <\/span><\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Learn the fascinating biology and ecology of sea turtles through this module. Students will identify the different sea turtle species found in Australia, describe the external features of sea turtles, and identify threats to sea turtles and propose possible solutions. Through practical activities, students will learn the differences in feeding and habitat of the various species <\/span><\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Our coral reef modules introduce students to corals and the biodiversity of coral reefs. Students will learn about the different flora and fauna of coral reefs and develop understanding of their importance. A hands-on experiment allows students to develop an understanding of ocean acidification and coral bleaching. We look at how and why reefs are threatened and some ways we can mitigate these threats <\/span><\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Our forests modules show students the different types of forest that occur in Australia. Students learn the function of a the forest and learn about different Australian tree species and forest animals. An interactive activity encourages students to understand the difference between carnivores, herbivores, and omnivores. We investigate the threats to forests and the impacts of these threats, as well as ways we can mitigate deforestation<\/span><\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Through our fish and overfishing module, students will develop a basic understanding of the characteristics of fish. a fun, practical activity teaches students the effects of overfishing. Students will then learn about various destructive and sustainable fishing techniques and compare and contrast these. Discussions and practical activities help students to put what they have learnt in to practice<\/span><\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Our rubbish and recycling modules introduces students to the ongoing problem of rubbish and waste disposal. These modules highlight the impact of rubbish on the environment and introduce students to the three R’s – reduce, reuse, recycle. Students engage in practical activities to encourage reduction of rubbish in the environment, learn what items can be recycled and how, and design products using recycled materials. We learn about the plastic problem and evaluate the impact of single use plastic through practical activities. <\/span><\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n
